Drum Lessons and Drumset Instruction

Drum lessons and drumset instruction from the Metro Drum School are individual to your needs as the student. While method books and other teaching aids are used, lessons are by necessity un-scripted and personal.

At MDS, drum lessons follow the natural development of the student, taking into consideration the students needs and interests, while following a classic, fundamental approach to drum instruction, including rudiments, time keeping, reading music, learning drum patterns and styles, all with an emphasis on developing the student as a musician.

More importantly, the student is taught in a way that emphasizes natural movement, energy management, and grip development, to assist with speed and facility around the instrument, while minimizing injury and maximizing power and endurance.

In-studio drum lessons are taught on professional-grade drum kits, including cymbals. Student and teacher are side-by-side, with mirror walls used to help the student visualize, understand, and practice correct techniques for hand motion and other fundamentals of drumming.
