A native of Orange County, California, Gary Lefrancois started playing drums at age 11, studying with the famed Freddie Gruber, and was playing professionally at age 16. He lists his influences as "anyone good" - as in, Louie Bellson, Buddy Rich, Philly Jo Jones, Elvin Jones, and Tony Williams, to name a few.
While gigging in California and Nevada, he wound up in show bands in Reno and Las Vegas, as well as on overseas tours through the Far East. After joining a touring band from Denver, Gary fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and moved here in the 80's, and the rest is history.
Gary started the Metro Drum School and developed his own drum teaching method, based on natural body motion. A published drum educator with more than 6 books written, his current projects include an instructional DVD focusing on Buddy Richs' big band technique, as well as jazz and blues performances with various groups, and his own jazz group, Trio Bravo. Possessing stellar technique and blazing speed (a runner-up in Guitar Centers' yearly drum challenge), Gary uses Vic Firth sticks, Sabian cymbals, and Ludwig drums. He is a Vic Firth Educator as well. With almost 40 years playing professionally, Gary can teach young and old how to play, or improve anyones skills or technique, regardless of style or skill level.
